The Hollywood Canteen was a club for GIs where Joan Crawford might over- easy you some eggs and John Garfield might scrub out the frying pan, where Hollywood stars gave some of their spare time cooking, waiting on and entertaining the GIs.The film Hollywood Canteen is a salute to the canteen, which includes in the cast the driving forces behind its creation, Bette Davis and John Garfield, who along with Jules Stein (who is not in the movie) the President of Music Corporation of America, who headed up the finance committee.
The movie is built around a storyline of a GI who wins a date with Joan Leslie. It’s part drama; part musical; part variety show with 40 plus stars including: Jack Benny, Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, John Garfield, Roy Rogers, Barbara Stanwyck, Jane Wyman, Jimmy Dorsey, Ida Lupino, Peter Lorre, Sydney Greenstreet, Dennis Morgan, Joan Lesley, Joe E Brown any many many more.

includes: a trailer for “The Doughgirls;” a newsreel; “I Am an American,” which traces the proud heritage of a family; “Proudly We Serve,” in which an aerial gunner gets trained by a female marine instructor; “Report from the Front,” a plea from Humphrey Bogart to donate to the Red Cross.
